Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek is a short, easy and enjoyable trekking destination which is in the western region of the Nepal. It is ideal trek for the people with a desire to enjoy the panoramic view of mountains and encounter village life with limited time or who are concerned about high altitude. The Trek begins from Naya Pul, a short drive from Pokhara. This trek is admired for the beautiful landscapes, including rice terraces; panoramic views of the silvery mountains, and walking through the world’s biggest colorful rhododendron forest. You will also be able to observe the different communities’ cultures, their living style and tradition of Gurung and Magar people.

You will be delighted to witness the spectacular sunrise over the whole Himalayan peaks including Fishtail-6998m, Annapurna I- 8091m, Annapurna II- 7939m, Annapurna III-7555m, Annapurna IV-7525m, Himchuli – 6441m, Annapurna South – 7219m, Lamjung Himal – 6986m, etc.

You don’t need any previous mountaineering training or technical experience for this trek as the terrain is not very difficult. However, some hiking experience and good physical condition is very useful.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu airport and you will be transferred to the Hotel by one of our representatives. Welcome dinner at one of the traditional Nepali restaurants in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Visit Patan – Swoyambhunath: start our tour with the magnificent Swoyambhunath which is 10 minutes drive from Thamel. Then we drive to one of the oldest cities of Kathmandu valley which is called Patan to witness its incredible architecture from medieval period.

Swoyambhunath is one of the oldest stupas of the Kathmandu Valley. It is situated on one of the highest hills in the valley. It watches over the Valley from the top of a hillock on its western side just three kilometers west of the city center. The stupa is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal and its establishment is linked to the creation of the Kathmandu Valley out of a primordial lake. Swayambhu is also known as Samhengu and is recognized as a World Heritage Site. It is also one of the oldest and most glorious Buddhist shrines in the world which is said to be two thousand years old. The four sides of the stupa are painted with the eyes of Lord Buddha.

Patan, the second largest town in the valley is situated to the south of Kathmandu. Patan's great buildings boom took place under the Mallas in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Numerous temples of widely diverse styles, as well as many Buddhist monasteries, are scattered around the fascinating town. Patan is famous for its crafts and metal works which are wonderful souvenirs.

Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m) by private vehicle: In the afternoon, we visit Devis Falls; the waterfall goes into a very deep and narrow canal, Guptesowri Cave, a very attractive natural cave and Fewa Lake, second largest lake in Nepal which are the main tourist attractions in Pokhara.

Day 04: Trek Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1540m): After an hour drive to Naya Pul, we start our trek to Tikhedunga. It is fairly easy walk for about 4 hours. We follow a small stream all the way to Tikhedunga.

Day 05: Trek Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2860m): Today we have about 7 hours of walking via Ulleri and Nangethati villages. From Tikhedhunga, we begin our journey with a rocky steep climb to Ulleri which is a large Magar village at 2070m elevation. We walk through the biggest rhododendron forest in the world.

Day 06: Trek Ghorepani to Tadapani (2590m): early morning hike to Poon Hill (3210m) to catch sunrise over the magnificent mountain ranges. Seventeen different mountain peaks including two of the highest ones in the world; Dhaulagiri( 8167m, 7th Highest) and Annapurna I (8091m, 10th Highest) as well as Annapurna II( 7939m), Annapurna III(7555m), Annapurna IV(7525m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Himchuli(6441m), Annapurna South(7219m), Tukuche Peak(6920m), and Lamjung Himal(6986m) can be seen from Poon Hill. Then we retrace our steps back to Ghorepani and continue our trek climbing a small hill leaving behind the view of Poon Hill. Then we descends through dense mossy forest rich with bird life to Tadapani.

Day 07: Trek Tadapani to Chhomrong (2170m): Our day starts with a steep descend from Tadapani through rhododendron forest. As we approach to Gurjung, trail ascends through paddy field followed by gradual climb to Chhomrong.

Day 08: Trek Chhomrong to Landruk (1565): The trek to Jhinu Danda takes about an hour where we stop for a relaxing plunge to hot spring. After our relaxing dip in hot spring, continue our trek to Landruk, a small Gurung village, where you can see some typical Gurung round houses. It is about 3 hours trek.

Day 09: Trek Landruk to Pothana (1890m): we continue our trek towards Pothana enjoying the view of Annapurna and Pokhara valley. It is about 5 hours trek, goes through several small Gurung settlements.

Day 10: Trek Pothana to Phedi and drive to Pokhara (820m): short and enjoyable hike down to Phedi via Dhampus followed by a short drive to Pokhara.

Day 11: Visit Sarangkot: an exciting drive for about half an hour to a view point called Sarangkot which offers spectacular view of the Annapurna and Fish Tail. Then we hike for about 3 hours down to the Sedi Bagar enjoying the view of Fewa Lake and Lake City. In the afternoon, we drive to the World peace stupa which is situated on a high hill of Pokhara valley.

Day 12: Flight Pokhara to Kathmandu (1334m): a scenic flight back to Kathmandu.
